  1. Q-why do you think spilling the soup was such a big deal?
Awnser-In my opionion it was a big deal because the nazi will get made and hurt them or take them away.
W-when Alex told them Stasek died I was suprised.
    I-"they're being killed"
    L-'ghetto' is an interesting word.

    1. I think your on the right track with your posts, but this one doesn't have very much detail. Things you could do to improve your post would be:
-Check your spelling, you said "made" but I think you meant "mad"
-Remember capitals, "nazi" needs a capital "N".
-For your "Q" Im not quite sure I understand your answer. Why would the Nazis get mad and hurt them for spilling soup when they could care less about them? Also, why would they take the family away for spilling soup?
      - For your "I" you should add more detail of the image you got when reading that part
      - You forgot the last "Q".
      Other than that good job

  2. Q-One question that I had was how do you think the gutgelds got so much food?
A-In my opinion I think they got it because they have a german friend.

W-I said WoW when yarek said "None of your bissness jew boy" to jacob.I think he said it because he was mad at the time.

I-I had an image when jacob said "were are we going" he said to uncle alex.

L-What does yearned mean I think it means like pulled or somthing or it is polish?I chose it because it looked very different.

Q-Whats life like in the ghettos? it reminds me of the old days when hitler was controlling germay.

A question I was wondering was why do you think aunt Hannah was alowing Jacob to leave?

    (A)
In my opinion I think aunt Hanna was alowing him to leave because she might want the best for him.

    (W) Wow I really got shocked when Alex whanted to give Jacob a new name.

    (I) A quote that got my eye was when Jacob said "there getting killed at the farms.

    (L) Bubbe is such an interesting name it took me a while to actually understand what it said.

In your first Q and your A you spelled allowing like alowing, you may want to fix that. Another spelling error you have is in W you spelled wanted like whanted, you also may want to fix that. For L the very last word you put was said I think you may want to put meant instead. You should probably add a bit more detail. But in total good job.

  4. (Q)
What do you think Aunt Hannah and Bubbe are doing now that Jacob is gone?
Answer:I think that now Aunt Hannah and Bubbe will just try to stay alive for as long as they can. Since Jacob is now with the Roslan's I'm sure that Aunt Hannah and Bubbe miss him just as Jacob misses them. It will be a long fight for survival if Aunt Hannah and Bubbe are to survive.

    (W)
I thought wow and was very surprised when Jacob so quickly jumped onto the idea of temporarily changing his name. I know that he probably didn't like the idea although he has to do what he can to stay safe. I personally think that I would agree on the temporary name change although it would take a long time to stick to me.

    (I)
Jacob's stomach fluttered and his mind raced.
    Page 13

    (L)
I got a lot of these.....
    1) A few stale roles, and a wrinkled, bruised apple.
    2) Yearned
    3) Stonily
    4) Cot
    5) He smelled a pungent mixture of tobacco and whisky.
    6) Laboring

    (Q)
Alex Roslan said "I don't need a lecture on how to care for children." to Aunt Hannah. I thought that this was very deep because it showed that even in a dangerous situation like this Alex was prepared to deal with anything coming at him.

    1. You did a very good job on this homework I noticed you did not explain why you chose that phrase in the "I" in QUILQ I especially like "L" you did a lot of extra work but you have to remember to follow the criteria because you forgot to explain why you chose those types of exquisite language and you forgot to also type out the sentences. Over all your information was very clear and your grammar was great once again good job!

  5. Q- Why did yerek say it was strange and odd sleeping beside a polish boy wich is Jacob?

A- In my opinion about why Yurek said that is. I think he said that because maybe it was his first time knowing a polish boy so he probably thinks its okward because he dosent know much about polish boys.

I- A clear Image I imagined in my brain is when Marishka came forward to jacob and handed him a small bouquet of wilted flowers I could just imagine that picture so good because I can just see the flowers just so wilted and needs water so bad.

L- Some interesting words that caught my eyes were sickly, yearned, and pungent.

Q- A quote that popped out to me is "the only promise i'll make is to you, Jacob".

    1. For your answer for the question part, when you had said, In my opinion about why Yurek said that is. I think he said that because... I think you actually meant to say In my opinion I think that Yurek said this because... Also, you had spelled "awkward" okward, and doesn't you had spelled dosent. For he image section I saw that you had spelled Jacob without a capital, so remember that when you spell names, that you always put a capital at the beginning. Your language section was great! But, For your Q section at the end you should mention WHY it popped out to you. Other than that everything was awesome!!! :)

  6. Q-Why was Hannah making it harder for Jacob to leave.
A- I think this because this is the last time that she thinks she will see Jacob again. Also because she probably know Jacob since he was born and having to leave someone you know there whole life i think would be very hard.

W-I said wow when the polish family had bielived that the jewish people actually bomded that place. Just the fact how Hitler brain washed these people into believeing jewish people were like the devils minions just confuses me.

II had a clear image when jacob let go of alex to run back and give his aunt one last hug. I think this moment was sad to them because i think they both know that they never see each other again.

"Shivering on the chill of the late afternoon" I like theese words well just becasue they seem to create a picture of people walking around the ghetto freezing in the cold. Not a good image but a clear one.

Q-The only promise ill make it to you Jacob. I like this because hes saying that you can trust me and ill keep you safe.

  7. Q- Why didn't the girls reply to Jacob for the first time?
A- In my opinion, I think the girls didn't reply because they thought it was very awkward for them.

W- When Yurek said to Jacob "none of your business, Jew boy," it surprised me because I didn't know Yurek was a mean person.

I- I had a clear image in my head when Jacob ran back to Aunt Hannah for the last because it was very touching.

L- A word that I found it was funny was "yearned."

  8. Q: Will Jacob reveal his real identity when he's living with this new family?

W: I can't believe that the Germans think that the Polish people started the war. But really the Germans started it.

I: He pulled out a rumbled cigarette from inside his jacket pocket and said, "Smoke, Genyek?"
(I thought he was only eleven!)

    L: What does pungent mean?

  9. Q- What do you think will happen to Aunt Hannah and Bubba? Will they be ok?
A- I think they will be able to live but, not as good of a live as they used to have when Jacob was with them

W- I was completely shocked when Yurek said to Jacob "None of your buisness, Jew boy. That amazed me because I thought that Yurek was a better person than to say that to Jacob.

I- Yurek Broke in. "Farms? That's not so bad." An image came to mind when he said this.

    1. I thought that your QWILQ was pretty good. You described exactly how you felt about each part of it. I didn't think that your I or your second Q made much sense although you may have just not added a small detail or comma. Overall it's good although you could easily fix these.

  10. Q. - What do you think is going to happen to Aunt Hannah, and Bubba when Jacob leaves?
    a. - I think Aunt Hannah probably be sent to a concentration camp, but since Bubba is old, I think she'll get killed right away because she wont be of any use when the Nazis come.

    W. - I said, "Oh wow" when Yurek said, "No of your buiness Jew boy." I thought Yurek and Jacob were good friends and was a good person at that point in the story. I think Yurek said that because he was angry or something.

    I. - I had a very sad image in my head when Yurek ran outside with joy that the war was over, then got shot. Then Alex ran out to go get his son. It made me really sad.

    L. - Pungent was an interesting word I found.

  11. Q- Why was Anna in a big hurry when Gregory said that he saw a big rat under the kitchen?

    - Does Alex like Jacob and David better than his children?

W- I was surprised when Yurek said that his teacher alsways tells everyone that Jewish people caused all the trouble in Poland. German people brain washed not only adults but children too.

I- I had a clear image when Alex put on the light and put his hand to Yurek's burning, flushed cheeks.

    L- I didn't know what 'conscience' means.

Q- The quote I really liked was "Whoever saves a single life is as one who has saved the entire world." on page 114.

    1. Good job at QWILQ's ! Although there were a few mistakes such as-
      - For the questions, if you carefully read what Mr Hong said, you also have to write an answer for the questions.
      - For the wow, you spelled 'always' wrong and you had a few grammar errors.
      - For the quotes, you could explain why you liked that quote so much.
Other than that you did great!

  12. Q: One question that I had would be "why did it take so long for the Russians to arrive to help the innocent Jewish people?". I think the answer may be because they were waiting for the perfect time to attack when the Germans were not prepared.

W: I said "WOW" when the family moved into the old dirty house and Mela Roslan said she couldn't take it anymore. Then she ran out the door yell "I'm telling the Germans everything!". I said "wow" here because I couldn't believe that she would give up Jacob like that and also because if the Germans found out they were hiding a Jewish person her whole family would be in trouble.

I: I had a really clear image in my head of Jacob peeking out of the couch when they were talking him to the doctor. Also, when Alex Roslan and his son carried the couch down to the cart, then the cart bumping along down the street.

L: For my "L" I choose the phrase "The five year old grinned, each cheek revealing a deep dimple. Blond ringlets covered his head", on page 78. I choose this phrase because I really like the way they described Jacobs little brother.

Q: For my "Q" I choose the quote "Whoever saves a single life is as one who has saved the entire world" said by Alex on page 114. I choose this quote because I found it moving. To me it gave the message that even if you only help one person you are still making a difference, possibly a difference as big as the world itself.

    (TO BE CONTINUED!)

  14. Q: Why do you think the Russians took so much time just to go to help the Jewish?
A: I think they took so much time because they had a long way to go and maybe there were difficulties on the way there like a battle or they needed transportation like a boat or others. Also another reason is maybe they walked to Germeny anything is possible.

W: I said wow when Jacobs brother came to stay with the rolands because I thought it was amazing that jacob would have one of his relatives with him through the rough time they were having.

I: I had a clear image in my head of alex carrying his son after he had been shot by someone thinking in his head that the war was over and everyone was free including the Jews so they can live their life fully and not have to be worrying that the german will take them away.

L:I thought pungent was a very odd and unusual word in the novel.

Q: "The only promise i'll make it to you Jacob" I found that quot very nice and soothing for Jacob so that he knows he will be safe from whatever life throws at him.

  15. Q- Will the Roslan family expose Jacob to the soldiers because they would get money, food, etc?
A- I dont think they would expose him because even if they report Jacob to the soldiers, all their hard work of getting him out of the ghetto and hiding him will be of no use.

W- I said wow when David was allowed to go out to play but not Jacob. It isn't fair that only one child can go out to play and the other stay at home. This caused Jacob to be jealous of David.

I- I had a clear image when Sholom came into the house. He was so skinny and pale. I felt really bad for him because he had to stay with goats.

L- When Alex and Jacob helped Sawicki the local baker, she asked what they wanted and they said a loaf of bread. Then Jacob thought'' If stomachs could smile, mine would be grinning a kilometer wide''. I found that line very funny.

Q- In page 117, there was a line that I really liked. It was '' Even in the worst of times, goodness still exists. I liked it because it tells us no matter how hard times are, there is still one person who can change everything.

  16. Q- Will the Roslan family bring another Jewish child into their life?
A- I think they will because it seems as though is mother is caving in.

W- I said "Oh wow!", when David and Jacob were having jealosy issues when David got to play outside but not Jacob, because David did not look jewish.

I- I had a clear image when Jacob looked like a mouse when he was hiding in the couch.

L- An interesting word that was used in the book was pungent.

Q- A quote I found in the novel was, "Whoever saves a single life is as one who has saved the entire world." I think that is really moving because I think it implies you have saved the entire world for that single life, or its like someone saving the world when you save a single life.

      - Some capital errors. For example, you need to capitalize 'Jewish', 'Yurok' , 'Jacob' and 'I'
      - You need to add MORE DETAIL!
-I noticed that you didn't do the last Q. Don't forget that!

      Over all, well done!

    2. Your QWILQ's are good but you should consider adding a little more details and you should capitalize Yurok ( which is spelled as Yurek ), Jewish and Jacob. Remember to capitalize all the your I's! For your QWILQ's you forgot to do language and quotes. Other than that you did a good job!

  19. Q-Why would Jacob and uncle Galer move to a less friendly neighbourhood? I think Jacob and Galer may have moved to a less friendly neighbourhood because they didn't want people to be coming to their home

W-One part that made me say:"OH WOW" was when Sholom died from scarlet fever because he was just introduced to the story and i thought he would be a big part of the story.

I- A part of the story that made a clearer picture in my head was when Yurek was describing the man that attacked him, I chose this page because it used lots of details.(page.57)This is the sentence used:"Yurey liked the look of his attacker. His bushy eyebrows and drooping moustache made him look fierce and brave."

L-The word I chose was mastoid which was used in this sentence:"The boy has scarlet fever, and it has infected the mastoid.(I chose this word because I did not know what it means.)

  20. Q - Why were they bringing in all of these Jewish boys?
A - They might be doing it because they have children of their own. They might understand what a child needs and knows that Jacob and his brothers would not survive on their own. To add to that, they must have been a tad bit crazy to risk their lives along with their children's lives.

W - A time in the book that made me say "Oh Wow" was when the Roslans kept on taking in Jacob's siblings. I thought that was an extremely dangerous idea. It seemed like too much of a risk because of the fact that if they found a Jew, they would all die.

I - I had a vivid image of Yurek casually walking out the door with a smile on his face before getting shot by a sniper. I could see the blood spattering all over the ground as the sniper bullet pierced Yurek's body.

    L - Jackbooted

Q - The quote I chose was, "I promise that you will be safe with me." I chose this sentence because it showed that Alex was devoted to keeping Jacob safe from harm. It also showed that Alex was risking everything for Jacob to live.
