Assignment # 5 - Point of View (POV)

There are many elements to a story and you have learned quite a few of the terms this year.  Your assignment today is on 'POINTS OF VIEW'.  Read the following and complete #1-3.

POINT OF VIEW (POV):
a.) First Person POV - In a first-person narrative the story is told by a narrator who is also a character within the story, so that the narrator reveals the plot by referring to this viewpoint character as "I" (or, when plural, "we").
b.) Second Person POV - second-person narrative mode, in which the narrator refers to one of the characters as "you", therefore making the audience member feel as if he or she is a character within the story.
c.) Third Person POV - In the third-person narrative mode, each and every character is referred to by the narrator as "he", "she", "it", or "they", but never as "I" or "we" (first-person), or "you" (second-person).

ASSIGNMENT:
1.) Read the notes and make sure you understand the different 'POINTS OF VIEW'.

2.)  Decide which point of view the author uses in the novel and explain why you chose it.

2.) Give an example from the novel where the author uses the point of view that you chose.

  1. #####SPOILER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THIS FAR#####
Jacobs Rescue is read in third person view. One example of this is when it said "Jacob was very happy to see his brother." This proves that this is in third person because Jacob is the main character and it refers to Jacob in the third person.

  2. Jacobs Rescue is third person point of view because Jacob was scared when the Nazi came into the house he was staying at. It is third person because Jacob was scared.

I don't really understand what you're talking about. I think you should rewrite it again. :)

  3. Jacobs Rescue is read in third person because at the very beginning Alex said "Jacob why don't you tell the story how you remember it"

  4. Jacob's Rescue is in a third person point of view. One reason is beause Jacob is the main character and it says in one part of the story that "Jacob nodded, glad to have his friend along to share the adventure with him." Another reason is When it says "Jacob hugged him tight." The last rason I will say is the part where it says "Jacob jumped up and went to the hiding place." These are reasons why the book is in third person.

    1. Jacob being the main character has nothing to do with if the book is third person or not and you spelled reason wrong in the second last sentence. but overall great job.

    1. Add quotation marks and use proper punctuation like adding a period add the end of a sentence. Add more details, do you think it could have been a different point of view?

    2. I think Jacobs rescue is in third person point of view because it says "Jaccob was happy to see his brother" it says jaccob so it is in third person.

I think that you did a good job but something you could do to improve would be, to add another example not just having one. I do not see any other errors though.

    1. Your post was good and explained exactly what was needed. Although, you did add a bunch of pointless extra words that could be replaced. One would be "Well why would I say this, well here is an example." You could have easily just put "For example." Also at the end you wrote "That was my example." This was completely pointless so you should remove it.

  9. I think for this novel Jacob is the third point of view. One reason is he is the main character in the book and a reason in the book is when Jacob said this " Jacob mumbled the multiplycation tables that he and Marishka practiced earlier.

  11. I believe that this novel uses third-person point of view. To be in the third-person POV, every character is referred to by the narrator as "he", "she", "it", or "they", and in the book it says, "Jacob nodded, glad to have his friend along to share the adventure with him." It mentions Jacob as, "him".

  12. "Jacob's Rescue" is written in the third-person narrative mode. For example, on page 11, it says "Jacob knew she didn't believe it, but he didn't say anything more."

  13. I think that the novel, Jacobs Rescue is written in the third person point of view. The reason is because on page 15, it says Jacob ran back and hugged Hannah...

    1. When you say "I think that novel, Jacob's Rescue is...." You have to have a , after rescue on Jacob's Rescue. overall, it's fine.

  14. I believe this novel is third person POV. An example is in page 17, it says '' Jacob nodded, but he felt miserable.''

  15. This novel is in Third Person Point of View.I know this because the author talks about Jacob and other characters as he, she, they, etc. An example would be, 'Jacob took off his glasses and nodded, his eyes never leaving Alex.'

    1. Hello Sherlock! I read over your work and I thought it was great! But there was one thing that you can fix, in the second sentence you didn't put a space after the period. That's all you need so I think it's safe to say that you did awesome! :)

  16. The novel "Jacobs Rescue" was written in the third person point of view. I know this because the author told the story usings "he", "him" or "Jocob" instead of "I" or "me". For example one part of the book reads "Jacob peeked out of the couch".

  17. (REVISED)
This novel "Jacobs Rescue" is third person. Here is an example to prove my point, "Jacob felt a little better, but he still cried".

  18. I think the novel "Jacob's Rescue", is in the third person POV. An example in the novel is, "It was too dark to read, so he recited multiplication tables to himself".

    1. You post is very quick. A few things you could do to improve it would be:
-Look out for capitals "I" and all names of proper nouns need capitals, like "Jacob".
-Jacobs rescue should be in quotations (") and rescue needs a capital, so it should look like this: "Jacobs Rescue".
-You should put quotes on "I did this" and "i" needs a capital.
-You could put a period after "I did this" so it's not all one sentence.
-"Sais" is spelled wrong, it should be "says".
-I'm not sure what "egh:" means, do u mean "example"?.
-"Jacob noded and felt miserable" should be in quotes because it was said in the book
      - last you need a capital at the end of the sentence.
Just a few things to keep in mind for next time :)

  20. (REVISED)

I think the novel "Jacob's Rescue", is in the third person POV. An example in the novel is, "It was too dark to read, so he recited multiplication tables to himself", since each and every character is referred to by the narrator as "he", "she", "it", or "they", but never as "I" or "we" (first-person), or "you" (second-person).

  21. @ Everyone - Some of you did not read the assignment carefully. There are 3 parts to this assignment and the third part is to include an example of the POV from the novel. If you haven't already done so, post your example.
