The very definition of persecution is to be treated unfairly or unjustly.  Your novel evoked many different emotions throughout the different chapters.

1.) Choose one scene from the novel that clearly shows a form of persecution
2.) Explain which emotion(s) it evoked.
3.) Also, explain how it made you feel.

***You should respond in paragraph form following the criteria outlined in class.***

  1. A place in this novel where I clearly saw persecution was when Mela opened the door and the Gestapo agent said "Where are the Jews?" I found this a form of persecution becuase the Gestapo agent obiously wanted to get Jacob and then kill him. An emotion that evoked inside of me saddnes. It made me feel sad becuase I almost thought that the Gestapo agent was going to find Jacob and kill him and the entire family for having Jacob.

    1. good job but for the third sentence instead of saying "An emotion that evoked inside of me saddnes." you could say "An emotion that evoked inside of me was sadness." and you spelled sadness wrong.

  2. A place in the novel, "Jacobs Rescue" where I found a form of persecution, was when Alex's son Yurek Rosland heard the news on the radio that the Russians were coming. Yurek then rushed outside to celebrate, and then got shot by a German sniper. Alex ran outside, and held his lifeless son in his arms. This part in the story made me heartbroken, and very unhappy. Especially since this is a true story, it made me feel even worse.

    1. Great post overall! You have good grammar and punctuation. I only found one spelling mistake which would be you said "Rosland" and it's suppose to be "Roslan". Other than that great job:)

    1. Your post was very good. Although, you should fix a few things such as:
      1) Removing the 3 from the word the.
      2) Don't capitalize the word he in the second line.
      3) I think you were meaning to say evoked instead invoked.
      Overall good job.

I think you did a good job but, I have a few edits you may want to make. First of all you need to capitalize the I's and another thing you may want to change is the fact that you started a sentence with the word and. I do not think that all of those question marks and exclamation marks are necessary same with the anger face, I think you should just put one or two question marks and exclamation marks. Lastly, I think you could have put more detail. Good job in total.

    2. One scene from the novel that clearly shows a form of persecution was when the Germans guards stopped every Jews for inspection then, they killed the Jews by slamming a rifle against thier back. I thought that this was a very cruel thing to do. I was angry and sad. Although Jews are different from Germans, they should NEVER kill them!

  6. One scene that showed a form of persecution was when the Nazis were destroying the Ghettos. They did it because they were tired of being treated like animals and decided to fight back. None of this would ever have happened if the Nazis never decide to terrorize the Jews. I felt angry that the Nazis would so easily destroy them and also sad because of all of the people that died.

You really did great job! There are no punctuation errors, spelling mistakes and capital mistakes! but for the second sentence, I think you should change 'They' to 'Jews'. Over all, well done!

  7. A form of persecution I found in this book was when Yurek was celebrating that the russians where coming and someone just shot him. That shot made him die which is very heartbreaking for me and it made me very sad that someone would do that to such a young boy who has so much to offer to the world also so many years he could had have in his life with all the people that loved him like his parents and sister. I was very sad and angry at that part that someone would be so cruel and mean. It made me sad as the burried Yurek in his grave with so many people there that loved him.

  9. A place in the novel where I saw persecution was when Yurek when outside and he died. I felt sadness and anger because he thought he was free but the German soldier killed him. The soldiers were merciless and killed a young boy is not even twenty. The saddest part was when he was like '' Papa were free!! Free! Im going to get some sugar and horsemeat for us, so we can have a real dinner,'' and then he said '' Dont worry!'' and then he dies. It was heartbreaking when he said, '' Mama. Papa. Its all right. Im sorry I gave you so much trouble. Take good care of Mari, Genyek and Tedek '' because even though he was dying, he cared about his famiy so much.

  10. A place in the book where persecution took place would be when three Nazi soldiers burst into the home of the Roslans stating "where is the Jew?!". They tore through the house looking for Jacob. Being very rude in the process. They think that because they are Nazis it gives them the right to just barge into this house uninvited and making accusations. This particular scene made Mela very angry at disgusted at the unwanted visitors. It made the two Roslan and Jacob scared and angry at the same time. This part made me mad as well as sad and sorry for Mela and the children because nobody deserves to be treated like they are any less important than any other human being.

    2. Hello Cleopatra! I read over your paragraph and it was very deep in meaning! I did see some errors that you should fix for next time, such as after "Jew?!" you don't need a period after because you already finished the sentence. Also, in the fourth sentence before "because" I think you forgot to add "just". The only other thing I saw was you forgot to add an "s" after Rolsan. All in all, it was amazing! :)

    1. Your response was good but you should consider adding a little more detail and you had a few spelling, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization errors. Percicution is spelled as ' persecution' and Yurok is spelled as ' Yurek'. Other than that your response was great!

  14. A part in the book that was a form of persecution was, when Yurek who was a brother and a son. Went outside to get some food for the family, but while he was going outside he was shot by a German soldier. I felt really sad and a little angry at that moment while I was reading that part because I just felt like it was really wrong to do something like that to a young boy. He never did anything wrong to them so they shouldn't do something like that to Yurek.

    Really sad... :(

The emotions It made me feel was sad because I was sad that so many people are getting killed just from the Nazi's and another emotion I felt was mad. Also, the emotions that matched the book was horible, mean, sad, and angry.

    1. in the second last sentence you could say "I also felt mad" instead of "i felt was mad" and last sentence you could say "that matched the book were horrible, mean, sad, and angry." instead of "that matched the book was horible, mean, sad, and angry." but great job.

  16. The part of the book I chose was when David got to play outside while Jacob could never see daylight at all because Davids blond hair helped make people think he wasn't Jewish. 1. Hello Cole! I thought you did a good job. But there were a few things you should think about for next time. To illustrate, you have forgotten to use capitals on the start of the first sentence, and on name. Another thing I noticed is that you didn't have a lot of detail. Next time add more about how you felt about the scene you chose. Also, maybe start out with something like, "The part of the book I chose that I thought showed persecution was when..." Overall, you did a pretty good job. :)
